Community vs. Blog

I’ve been thinking about the differences between online communities (threaded discussions) and blogs. What are the plusses and minuses of each.
Communities: interactive, bring people together, allow many points of view, have less chance of becoming cob-webs for lack of interest.
Blogs: less dependent on others for success (posting), control, blog engines like MT are useful for fast content management with little time spent on coding markup, more time spent on writing and content.
Both communities (UBB, phpBB, etc.) and blogs are useful and both depend on some kind of interaction for success.
Communities need lots of people, the more the better so that as folks get busy with other things other folks are posting.
Blogs need lots of readers and so, put more responsibility on the publisher to have something useful to say.
Following successful communities and blogs has been interesting and both of these online phenomena can be extremely successful and useful.
