A Tragedy…

President Bush visits a primary school classroom. They are in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asks the President if he would like to lead the discussion of the word “tragedy.” So the illustrious leader asks the class for an example of a tragedy. One little boy stands [...]

Bill Atkinson released a book of photographs that is outstanding. I’ve followed his career, both at Apple (one of the fathers of the Macintosh, and author of MacPaint, HyperCard, and more) and as a photographer. This latest work is some of his finest and is near and dear to my heart: in my earlier years [...]

Carl Cameron’s Bias

Robert Greenwald and Moveon.org have posted tape of Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron interviewing then Governor George Bush. What you see in the link below is pre on air footage showing quite a bit of bias which Cameron has complained about in his reponse to OutFoxed, Greenwald’s scathing documentary on Fox News. This is amazing [...]

DP Review reports that Nikon has had 18 boxes of D70s Stolen at Schiphol Airport in The Netherlands. You can find the serial numbers at the above link. Help track down the cameras and certainly don’t buy them. These are low end but extremely popular digital SLRs although they’re worth well over $1000 apiece retail.

History of MoveOn.org

WIRED News has a piece on the history of MoveOn.org: MoveOn Moves Up in the World . For what it’s worth, I won 1st place in the After Dark Screen Saver Contest in 1994. Joan Blades and Wes Boyd, the founders of MoveOn.org were also the founders of Berkeley Systems, the publishers of After Dark. I [...]

Schlagwerk Percussion

I discovered Schlagwerk Percussion in my search for cajones. I didn’t buy one of theirs but they have great stuff: udus, cajones, and other great wooden instruments. Not sure how to buy in the US but it would be fun to find a source.

Our friend Joy Brown was loading her big anagama kiln the other day and I went by to see where my clay “balls” were going to be in the kiln and just watch the action. Joy makes large ceramic sculpture of what seem to be large, round women sitting or kneeling. They’re wonderful and she’s [...]

More on AirPort Express

I found a useful user post at Apple’s online discussion area: AirPort Express FAQ. Here’s my theory, for what its worth: 1. The default and maybe only way to use an AirPort express to extend the range of an existing AirPort Extreme network is wirelessly (WDS); one cannot extend the range of an existing network [...]

New Harmony, Indiana

We were just in Evansville, Indiana and took a fieldtrip west 20 miles to a small town called New Harmony. New Harmony is a failed utopian-religious experimental town that has not only been preserved but has had substantial yet understated investment and rennovation done. This open-air church and courtyard, which I’m pretty sure was designed [...]

How Dare Linda Ronstadt have an Opinion! Linda Ronstadt had to be escorted from the stage at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas when she made a supportive comment about Michael Moore. AirPort Express

Apple recently introduced a new wireless access point (AirPort Express) and new wireless technology called “AirTunes” for playing digital music through wireless technology on a stereo system. We needed a second access point in our living room and this one is small and less expensive than the full-sized AirPort Extreme base station and since we [...]
