The Biggest Game in Town

The Biggest Game in Town has been called the best book on poker ever written. I have no idea if it is but it’s a great read and after reading it you will see the game and its culture quite differently. I’m not a poker player or even a card player but if I read an essay in The New Yorker that turns into a book, I tend to read the book. That’s what happened here and I was not disappointed.

I read this when it first came out in The New Yorker, and you’re absolutely right, Richard. It’s a great job of reporting about poker, and especially about the people who’ve been involved with high stakes Hold’em Poker. I’m not a card player either, and this writing is fascinating.
