Virgin River and Lake Mead

Looks like the Nile in the desert here, an amazing shade of blue coming out of mountains into desert where there is no visible water and everything looks like terra cotta. Given where we were in this flight, I thought for sure this was the Colorado River.
I consulted a map and in doing so I saw that this is the Virgin river which empties into the top of Lake Mead, north of Las Vegas. Whether this picture is the Virgin River or the top of Lake Mead I’m not sure in that Mead is relatively Narrow toward it’s top.
Because Lake Mead is is a man-made lake (made by Hoover Dam) where the Virgin River ends and where Lake Mead begins is tough to calculate but this picture sure looks like one changing into the other. It may actually be lower down where the Virgin runs into the Colorado, or used to before Lake Mead was made.
