Richard, I just checked it out from our library this morning, and am really looking forward to reading it. He’s a great writer; I always enjoy his investigative articles in The New Yorker.
I enjoyed all the articles in The New Yorker that led to The Tipping Point more than the book itself and I’ve been reading him steadily since so it will be interesting to see what he’s done here. I loved The Tipping Point, but, it got slow in places for me where the individual stories in The New Yorker were better, more whole. I have a feeling this will be better. He’s young and has a lot more writing in him.
I decided to buy this one when I was at the local Barnes/Noble. It really makes a lot of sense…probably because I tend to use my first judgement (my blink).
Actually, after the initial “excellent” reviews this book has gotten less than excellent reviews. I started but did not finish it. Oh well, Gladwell is on a roll but I hope he doesn’t flame out as his New Yorker pieces are great and he’s got great ideas to write about.
So, it’s not just me! It has been slow reading, bogs down in places, but I’m nearly finished. I’ll let you know what I think when I finish.
Do, I’ll be interested. I enjoyed all of his articles more than the book The Tipping Point as well. Somehow the book didn’t connect them very well for me.
What’s interseting is that in the “blogosphere” Gladwell is God. I’m not sure if it’s because Kottke is a big fan and gets read by a zillion people a day (including me) or that weblogging is an example of viral idea spread or both or something else.
Gladwell did the keynote at the South by Southwest Media Conference this past year (last week?) and I guess it was well received from all the weblog hub bub. This is THE weblog conference, I guess. I’m a fan of Gladwell’s, just not of the books, so far.
