Have you ever been here? I didn't see any Hummers in the parking lot during the fireworks and yes, some folks around here drive SUVs but more of them drive Subaru Outbacks which seems like the most popular car in the area. I drive a truck but I do it because I use it to haul things like firewood and rocks and dirt. Yes, we burn wood but we do it cleanly with a modern stove. Do wealthy people live around or near Lake Waramaug? You bet. I'm not one of them but I know many and I'd venture to say that most of the people who live around here are quite conservative in lifestyle. As a matter of fact, having lived in numerous parts of the country, I'd stack this place up against almost any other in terms of environmental conciousness and living lightly on the land. The lake is alive and well thanks to an active association that keeps traffic down, bad marinelife out, and development to a minimum. I think it's important to disassociate the 4th of July from mindless neo-con patriotism: just because one celebrates the birth of this country doesn't mean one is a "love it or leave it" type. Each New Year's eve at midnight, all of the residents on the lake would bring their xmas trees down to their respective beaches and set them ablaze. It was quite a site.
