Kitty’s catnip ball
Friday, November 4th, 2005
This is an unusual shot: this ball is rarely in the middle of the floor without the cat on top of it. As I was thinking about how to take this shot I heard the cat running toward the ball which meant her hair was about to get on my brand new lens. Gad.
Our 15 + year old arthritic cat “attacking” her catnip ball.
Kitty bats her catnip ball so that she can chase it. This has always interested me: a cat rolls a ball, then chases it. Don’t they remember that they’re the ones who rolled it and it’s not alive?
As any cat owner knows, there comes a time when the cat really inhales the catnip and there is a pause, then an explosion of wild activity.
Falling over, high yet biting and clawing the defenseless ball all the way down.
Old cats have to rest after a “catnip” session. However, our cat is smart enough not to let the ball out of her sight. Shades of a good mouser.

Great series!
What a lot of fun it was seeing Kitty’s catnip adventure. And the way you photographed it (excellent use of shadows), worked perfectly. Cool!
Thanks to you both. She’s still resting from this one days later!
Fantastic! Really beaautiful, and amusing too.
Thanks Tracy. Amusing it all is with a cat.
