My mother inviews Dorothy Lamour
Thursday, December 15th, 2005
L-R: Peg (my mother’s best friend), Frances (my mother), and the actress Dorothy Lamore at “21″ in New York in 1946. Peg and my mother were assistant editors for Movieland magazine.
My 90 year old mother still has the pin she’s wearing here but the hat is no more (thank god).
*I shot this with my 20D because I don’t have a scanner.

Wow! Frances was really a looker. : ) She is the prettiest woman at the table. Although … that hat. yikes.
She was and I’m sure she’ll be delighted to hear you think she was a hottie.
Yes, that hat. Gad. Good thing it’s long gone. The pin, however, is interesting. I’ll photograph it the next time I’m in LA just for kicks.
This is one of those snapshots that makes me imagine another time- before me- when things were different and exciting. It is easy for me to romanticize these decades before I was born as being better then the current crazyness of the world. Imagine what it would have been like to be a young hottie in the 40s on the NYC scene. How cool!
Bonnie: exactly, you got it. That’s exactly the reason I posted the image. Great obsveration, well said.
I loved this picture so much, that I just bought a frame for it……..this afternoon, in fact. How ironic is that? I also took a bunch of other pictures of Frances in her younger days and made them into a small collage. I’ll be sending it off to her tomorrow.
Jill: that’s great, thanks for letting me know. Let me know if you ever find any other good family pictures that would be fun to digitize and put up on the web, it would be fun to get a load of them up here.
Will do (the ones I see fit for posting, that is…….meaning without me in them :) ) Terrific site, by the way!
Jill: thanks for the kind words on the site. I’m working on a yearly overhaul, mostly of its archives. Stay tuned.
Oh, I found a great family picture of the west coast fam with you and Michael as little kids. You were one cute little kid, let me tell you. I won’t digitize it without talking to you first, of course. ;)
