Adobe Lightroom

Michael Reichmann at The Luminous Landscape takes a first look at Adobe Lightroom, Adobe’s new high-end digital photography workflow tool.
You can download the public beta of Lightroom at Adobe Labs. There’s just an OS X version now, Windows version coming soon.
Lightroom directly competes with Apple’s Aperture and after reading the review in Luminous Landscape, I’d say it may be an Aperture killer.
All of this is happening just in time for me as I don’t have or use anything beyond iPhoto and have been looking for software like this for some time. Of course, Macworld is this week and there may just be a new version of iLife which will contain a new version of iPhoto and given that I love the simplicity of iPhoto compared to the complexity of these other products with their thousands of features, a new version of it will give me pause in moving to one of these other products. Stay tuned.

This is significant. From Adobe: “And best of all, it runs on most commonly used computers, even notebook computers used on location.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
Dale: it’s unfolding already. ;)
Yes, and the Lightroom Beta General Discussion forum is all a flutter with kudos as well.
