Approach to LAX
Friday, March 31st, 2006
Flying east to west across Los Angeles, California and about to land at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). I’m pretty sure this is Interstate 5 running north-south crossing one of the many other smaller freeways in Los Angeles.

Yes THE, no not that one.
I travel a lot internationally and shool a lot through the portal. Although not a photographer, it doesn’t take much for me to want to shoot it. No matter what type of camera I use (film or digital) I invariably get a haze on lot of by shots and was wondering how you seem to be able to avoid it. I currently am using Nikon DX 40.
Thanks for any advice. Steve
Steve, I get the haze too. Initially I used only post processing (iPhoto) to clean things up: up the exposure and contrast a tad, but once I came up with a method there I tried to cycle that information back to the camera so I could do more of the processing there. I still do a bit of work in iPhoto but it’s not much more than I’d do to any image which is very slight.
Having the sun low for higher contrast and clear shadows helps as does slight overexposure.
As long as we’re shooting through windows with glare and scratched plastic I think a bit of post processing will be necessary.
