Tree Swallow Trying to Land
Sunday, June 11th, 2006
Washington, Connecticut. A friend and I set up shop on a boardwalk running through a meadow in the Macricostas Preserve of the Steep Rock Land Trust. The meadow has a dozen bird houses on poles for the tree swallows living there and one of them was within focal reach of our long lenses. I felt like a real birder watching the action and there was plenty of it as these birds communally fed the youngsters in nests inside the houses. This female hovered for as long as she could waiting for the stubborn male to get out of the doorway. She finally landed on the roof to wait her turn.
