Playing wooden boxes

Kent, Connecticut. Last night our drum group, The Offbeats played a gig outdoors a few towns away. This picture was taken by my wife Anne of three of us (the main group has 4 more people in it) playing a latin improv on wooden “cajon” drums. Nora (left) is playing a large bass drum, Fumio (center) is playing a higher-pitched “ashiko-shaped” drum, and I’m playing a higher pitched drum with snares in it (right).
Nora and Fumio are playing Fat Congas cajons. I’m playing a Schlagwerk cajon. Wooden drums are incredible: wonderful dry tones and fun to play together. We had a blast.
