A pair of nuthatches

Nuthatches are my favorite birds. They’re the only birds that can walk forwards down a tree (woodpeckers can’t do this although they can hop down a tree). I don’t know the gender of these two but they were a pair for sure and once they got used to me they went after the seed. These birds take a single seed and fly up into the tree to work on it. Then, a few minutes later, they return for another single seed. They also eat suet and like woodpeckers, they’re bug eaters on trees. Great little dudes, fun to watch.

Nuthatches are my favorite too, Richard. I remembered them in when I lived in Conn. but never saw them in Kansas City. However, since we began feeding them birds when we moved to a rural area, they have appeared. I love watching them. We also have flocks of blue birds, lots of yellow finches who eat the suflower seeds from our flower heads and many wonderful birds of prey….even bald eagles in Lawrence.
Thanks for all the wonderful wildlife photography!
Pam: glad you like these little critters. They’re amazingly agile and fun to watch. Wow, bluebirds. But, you have fields which I think they love. Thanks for looking.
Hey,
I love what you’e doing!
Don’t ever change and best of luck.
