This site (Richard’s Notes) is not a real photo blog and even though I’ve been posting my photography on flickr and posting thumbs and links to those images here (many of you don’t click through to flickr, I know, although you should), I’ve realized that I needed a place to show my photographic work by itself so it looks better and is easier to browse through.
Some you have seen the site I’ve built for that but some of you haven’t and I’ve never really posted about it here, so, I welcome you to check it out. The site contains only what I consider to be my best photographs, a subset of what is found on flickr and here.
The photo site is built with Pixelpost, a crude yet easy to use and effective open source content management system for photography. I built the templates used in my site myself and I had help with extending PixelPost from my friend and web guru, David Clark. David and I are continuing to work to extend it to make browsing large numbers of photographs easier.
Here’s are some tips for moving around easily in the 100 plus photographs: The images at the site are categorized to make it easier to browse through them. Click on a category to see thumbnails of the images in that category. Click on a thumbnail to see a larger version of the image. Click on a large image to return to the Image Gallery in that category. Switch categories as necessary by clicking on category names. You can quickly get an overview of all of the images by simply clicking on each category name and looking at the smaller grouping of thumbnails associated with that category.
Unlike typical photoblogs, I have commenting turned off at my photo site although I will add a “guest list” for general comments and signups for emailings eventually. The site has an RSS feed for those of you who track site updates with a newsreader and it’s integrated with PayPal for purchasing prints from me. At this point I’m selling only notecards of the various images although I must say that they’re stunning notecards (if I do say so myself). Read the right column of the site’s About page for more on how I print and package them. I hope to be selling larger archival matted prints of the images in the next few months as I research and buy a pigment-based printer (more on that on this weblog eventually).
So that’s it. I welcome you to visit my new site and I hope you enjoy both my photography, displayed in a more pleasing way (hopefully) and the site’s features which make it easy to move through the work. Your comments will always be welcome. Enjoy.
