New and Newer

New York City. No sooner is a new glass tower finished than another goes up right next door. Each of these structures is an enormous undertaking financially, socially, structurally, logistically, environmentally and yet they are springing up like wildflowers in cities like New York all over the world. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in modern urban planning discussions just to see how they deal with the meta issues involved in packing so many people into these things. I’m not making a political statement here; I love these buildings and without them there would be no New York, Tokyo, or any other large, successful city. But, still, this kind of development makes little old me stop and think.
