Flickr Backup

Flickr Backup is a utility for copying a flickr photostream back down to a computer. Many people are using flickr for archival storage which is a good idea in case one’s computer goes down but what if flickr goes down? This utility allows copying back down to a computer. Hey wait, but what if the computer goes down… Ugh.

Richard, do you recommend using Flickr Backup regularly? Sounds like a good tool to use. Digital imagery is increasingly important to people, and backups are crucial. But it seems like no foolproof backup exists, so those who can should backup using external drives, CD’s, etc., for protection, and use if the other backups fail. Ah, digital, so simple I sometimes yearn for analog!
Gary, I don’t and won’t use it because I don’t use flickr as primary storage, I use iPhoto. Everything in my flickr stream I have stored in iPhoto and when I put things on flickr I never delete them locally. As I’ve learned more about post processing I’ve redone many a picture and replaced them on flickr. So, for me, this utility isn’t useful. My guess is your process is much the same. But, for folks who don’t want to store things locally and have it all up there, this is a nice tool for pulling things down, after the fact.
