Trees in Fog on the Shepaug River
Wednesday, January 10th, 2007
Washington, Connecticut. Driving south to the next town along the Shepaug River I noticed that in certain places ground fog was hanging above the water and spreading out into the adjacent trees. It was sunny out at the same time and this made a wonderful contrast between the softness of the fog and the sun on the grass and trees. the sun caught the grass which in a normal winter would not be green at this point and the lichen on the two maples which is a sign of trees living in a damp hollow next to a river.

That is one of the most beautiful nature photos I have ever seen!
Pam: Wow, thank you for that “made my day” comment.
why do I keep waiting for a medieval prince to go galloping by? Absolutely enchanting.
Caitlin: thanks, I’m delighted you like this image. In Washington, CT it might be possible to see a prince riding by… in a BMW ;)
This photo is gorgeous and scary. To me it’s a little more like nuclear winter than medieval prince.. sometimes you get so much more than you bargain for when you snap that shutter huh Richard?
Nuclear winter ‘eh Sheryl… sort of timely that you see it that way given Mr. Bush’s “way forward” (or should I say backward).
Yeah– I thought about my nuclear winter comment last night after I had sent it.. can’t take email back– But- the starkness of the photo, the way the trees seem to be holding back their three dimensions and somehow refusing us. It’s quite an image.
And yes, I think the man has taken leave of his senses completely. He is said to have an IQ of 88. Unable to think logically—- Which is not such a big problem unless you are “the most powerful man in the world.”
Sheryl: First, you can always ask me to edit or delete a comment, any time. Not hard to do and I’m glad to do it.
Second, the problem in this country is if the Democrats square off with Bush and try to stop the “plan” then they, in effect, may own the problem come the next election. If they let him go ahead they’re called a “do nothing congress” and they lose as well. It’s a tough place for them to be right now, politically.
I doubt Bush has an IQ of 88, but he does have what we might call “hardening of the categories” in that he seems incapable of seeing things in more detail than stark black and white. Thinking like this can lead to confrontations that might make things escalate rather quickly to a nuclear war and if that happened the above refrenced picture might be more common than it is now. Ugh.
