The PlayPump

A few weeks ago Frontline World rebroadcast a piece they did on The Play Pump, an innovative playground merry-go-round that is both a playground toy for kids and a pump to pump fresh water out of the ground and into a nearby water tower. Watch the video to see the entire segment, it’s quite worthwhile. The kids make the merry-go-round go round, water gets pumped. Simple.
All of this was the brainchild of Trevor Field, a South African businessman who had an idea and enough resources to get it moving. Now the idea is being replicated all over Africa and there’s talk of making it global and it has big foundation money behind it.
Check the PlayPumps site out for more and to contribute to the project.
Note: I see Frontline kept Play and Pump separate words but the PlayPump™ site pushes the words together with both an innerCap and a trademark. Hey, of course.
