Pasadena, California. The Huntington Herb Garden, like the Desert Cactus Garden, has a rich variety of exotic herbs from all over the world. Some of them are familiar: dill, rosemary, thyme, but others, like this one I had no clue about. This pod looked a bit too dangerous to pick and eat, like it might attack if you reached for it.

Your photo is of a seedpod of a delicate, airy plant with star-shaped blue or white flowers commonly named “Love-in-a-mist.” It’s hardy here in NW CT and readily self-sows. Anne needs some for her garden.
