New Safari, now on Windows too
Monday, June 11th, 2007
Apple has posted a public beta of Safari 3.0 and the big news is that there is now a version for Windows.
The stock took a beating as this was not considered earthshaking enough news. I think it’s one of the most strategic things Apple’s done since iTunes for Windows and if the stock falls enough I might just buy some more. The fact that Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) is on Apple’s board is enough to let those of us who track these things know that Apple is going to use Safari as a platform, on Macs, on PCs, and on the iPhone.
I’ve downloaded and I’m running the new Safari and it is in fact much faster at rendering sites and sites that didn’t render correctly on the older version are now coming in loud and clear. So far it looks like a real improvement and I’m delighted.
Hello Richard, yesterday i upgrade my safari, yes it is much faster now. but I open my activity monitor and see more then 300 used memory. thats normal ?
gedasg: I have no clue what it used before and what it uses now. My guess is they’ve given it a bit larger memory footprint given all of the application processes it has to do these days with all the javascripts and other stuff running on sites. You might dig around the support area on apple.com and see what’s written about this.
