Walking Macsoum (middle eastern rhythm)

Walking Macsoum is a simple middle eastern rhythm played on dumbek or tar or any drum. I’m using Glen Velez’s notation system.

|| DKTK DKT TK ||
The last two notes might be left out in learning the rhythm leaving a rest instead as they’re played quite fast. These same last two notes are in Baladi and I call them a bridge in that they seem to connect the end of the “sentence” back to the beginning of the next making it more of a circular sentence.
Notes
D = dum, bass note, strong hand
T = tek, edge or rim or high note, strong hand
K = kah, edge or rim or high note, weak hand
- = rest
*The notation will format differently on different browsers and IE users may not see things formatted correctly. Tip, get Safari, it’s free and it works on Macs and now Windows too.
