Masmoudi (middle eastern rhythm)
Aug 15th, 2007 by Richard
Masmoudi is a middle eastern rhythm usually played on dumbek or tar but can be played on any drum. I’m using Glen Velez’s notation system. Here I’ve listed three variations of it:
Three-beat Masmoudi
|| D-D-D-TK D-TKTKT TKTKT -TK ||
Masmoudi sigir
|| D-D-TKTKT D-TKTKT TKTKT -TK ||
Soft Masmoudi
|| D-TK D-TK D-TKTT D-TKTT T-TKTT ||
Notes
D = dum, bass note, strong hand
T = tek, edge or rim or high note, strong hand
K = kah, edge or rim or high note, weak hand
- = rest
*The notation will format differently on different browsers and IE users may not see things formatted correctly. Tip, get Safari, it’s free and it works on Macs and now Windows too.
