Alaska Airlines Opts for New Satellite Internet Access Service
They’ll test this on a few planes in the spring and if it works it will be fleet-wide by 2009. I hope/pray other airlines follow suit.
How awesome that would be if all airlines had in-flight internet access. All the business men who constantly travel could do so much more during the flight. Stock in blackberry’s might go down then… ;-)
Hughes, not quite sure about this. If flights had wifi access they’d allow satellite access too and that would mean Blackberries could be used on planes. Maybe.
I’m a pretty open minded guy when it comes to using different types of ISP’s as I always want to get the fastest speed and go with a company that boasts the lowest down time. I’ve had several people recommend that I go with a broadband satellite internet connection after I move out of the city and though it certainly sounds like a good alternative I don’t know that I want to leave my trusty cable company behind just yet. I’ve looked around online to get speed comparisons between cable and satellite ISP’s but I haven’t had much luck. What do you guys think of satellite? Should I stick with cable or ditch it for something a little more fairly priced?
Terry: I think cable is the way to go but I’m no expert. I do know that I have a faster connection with our cable here in rural connecticut than most people have with DSL anywhere and with cable in cities. I don’t know much about satellite but my guess is it would be slower.
