Some Airlines to Offer In-Flight Internet Service
If they handle it anything like the way some airports are handling their terminal wifi coverage it will no doubt be bad. I’m absolutely amazed that big airports like JFK and LAX don’t have free wifi access in every terminal. If Portland and other “hip” airports can do it, why can’t these?
On planes it should be open and free. Let them force us all through a portal, take names, plant cookies, whatever, but charging for it is a stupid speed-bump that ought not be there.
Reminds me of why I refuse to join United Airlines’ Red Carpet Club: once you pay (with miles) to join you have to then pay t-mobile for internet access while inside the club. Insane. I know United does it to offload the tech piece to t-mobile and they should still do that, just pick up the tab.

there should be internet access all over the county and in every airline it should be a commodity just like electricity internet connectivity (wireless) should be everywhere.
Edward: Right. When you do think it will happen (if ever)?
Not just JFK and Lax, but Seattle’s Sea-Tac doesn’t offer free wifi! Amazing. At Portland’s Airport, PDX, wifi is a snap all over the terminal, the way it should be at every airport.
Sacramento has free wifi too. And the United Red Carpet club in Narita (Tokyo) has it as well. Oh, and Thai Airways has it in the new Bangkok airport and provide it free; United added to their lounge in the old BKK airport too. Hmm…
I don’t know if the U.S. airports that don’t have it are stuck in lousy contracts with T-mobile or just lazy (probably a bit of both). I’ll add my voice to the others here that feel wifi should be available free at airports, and at the very least in the premium clubs as part of membership until contracts can be revisited.
Let’s boycott and not fly anymore. NOT.
well if all of the cell phone companies had fast data plans we would be all set but alas the network in the US are still slow.
