Chain Said to Seek Bids for Weather Channel
The Weather Channel, one of the last privately owned cable channels, is being put up for sale and could fetch more than $5 billion, according to people briefed on the auction. The channel and its rapidly growing Web site, weather.com, are already attracting interest from some of the biggest names in media, including NBC, a unit of General Electric; the News Corporation; and Comcast, these people said.
I haven’t watched the weather channel once since we got cable internet here ten years ago and my computer gave me the weather without listening to those “weather anchors” yacking at one another and turning a rain storm into a terrorist attack between hours of commercials. Their web site isn’t much better. $5 billion. Gad.
Awe, now come on Richard. We all know you listen to the smooth jazz they play during the local weather spots.
Right. I build my iTunes playlists from their local stuff…. Ugh, perish the thought.
