Kitty, Gary, Anne

Warren, Connecticut. I know, this is not a great image but I like it anyway. I was trying out Gary’s Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM lens and even though the light in the room made this a tough exposure (for me), it demonstrates what’s so interesting about shooting with a fast wide angle lens (subject isolation with a lot of background context). And, it was one of the few times the cat came out of the basement and posed for a few seconds.

I know that cat, she’s one fine Kitty.
I know that guy, he’s one fine Gary.
who is there behind kitty? looks how christmas fir
Gedas: Right, it’s our “plastic” folding Christmas tree that Anne takes out of its box in the basement and plugs in. Pretty tacky, ‘eh?
I’m becoming more of a fan of this type of shooting, with a wide angle lens close in, with lots of background context.
Andrew, glad to hear it. I have a lot to learn yet about it but I’m liking the little I’ve done of it.
So you decorate plastic christmas tree ? Why not the real, green one ?
Gedas: we’ve had real trees (live ones) for many years and with our wood stove it’s hard to keep them alive, they dry out and die too fast. Rather than buying a cut tree and then tossing it in the woods (burning these trees in our stove is not a good idea, too soft and sappy) we thought it a better idea to just have a tree that we reuse every year. It lacks the smell and romance of a “real” cut tree but it “works” for us. And remember, I’m Jewish so it’s not exactly my thing (we also have a menorah and celebrate hanukah).
