HBO mini-series on John Adams

HBO is doing a mini-series on John Adams starring Paul Giametti and Laura Linney. Looks fantastic. Dang, wish we had HBO.
Watch the preview, this looks like an incredible look at pre-Revolutionary America. I love seeing how things might have looked in earlier times, it enriches my sense of history.

That looks excellent and I’m a fan of the actors involved. As a Massachusetts resident and history buff I’ll definitely rent the DVD if it is reviewed favorably. I noticed a new miniseries tie-in cover on the McCullough’s book in a bookstore last night.
Funny how history keeps repeating itself. I could help smiling when I heard the line “War has been this administration’s policy from the beginning” in the preview.
Mike, good catch. For me, seeing Paul Giametti in that roll can’t help but bring up Sideways and him stealing money from his mother’s dresser. Hey, maybe John Adams did that too? ;)
Richard, I don’t have HBO either, but I do have David McCullogh’s book , “John Adams”, and it’s next on my list of historical books to read. Have you read McCullogh’s book, titled, “Truman”. It’s stupendous. His writing makes you feel as though “you are there”.
Diane, Anne’s read both his stuff and Doris Kearns Goodwin’s books as well. She’s a huge fan. Not me, I’m not that big a reader although I am slowly moving through Three Cups of Tea which is wonderful. I do read The New Yorker cover to cover which accounts for a lot of my reading focus and energy. Yeah, I do need to read more books. But, unlike others, I have a pretty good excuse which you know well.
Hi Richard,
It is on my list to get for the library, when it comes out on DVD….
Martha, Please put me down for a reserve on it. Seriously!
You know, maybe we should index your DVDs and tapes and put a list up at the Warren site so folks know what you have and can maybe make requests in comments. It won’t tell them if something’s in but it will be a faster way of scanning the list. I’m happy to do it for you, let me know.
I was watching the HBO series John Adams tonight and there was a nod at George Washington’s false teeth. It made me laugh because I remembered that those teeth are on display in Baltimore at The National Museum of Dentistry. Not only that, the map that the American delegation in France used to identify the United States of America at the Treaty of Paris, the actual map from George III’s library, is on display at the Maps exhibitions running at The Walters Art Museum. Fantastic Anna, thanks for the link. I so much want to see the John Adams miniseries… I’ll have to wait for the DVD. Sigh.
