Early Morning Light on Swamp
Monday, March 17th, 2008
Warren, Connecticut. The sun was coming up as I was driving by this swamp and the light was just too good, I had to stop. Light like this changes in minutes so one has to work fast, not to mention the stillness of the water can be disturbed by a leaf, a bird, or a beaver changing the reflection and so, the shot.
Note: This was shot last November but I wanted to share it as an example of the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 stopped down to f/11.
Another view of this image.

It’s amazing, color! water! trees! and this brown color….this was really good.
Fantastic color and composition Richard. This exceptional image is great. I’d love to see a large print of it.
Really spectacular!
Richard, this is fantastic! Congratulations. This will make a beautiful print to grace any wall. Really beautiful.
Thank you all, it was fun to discover this shot, I sort of knew I had it but I’d forgotten about it in the chaos of getting excited about another one.
I’m happy to make you all prints for your walls. The biggest I can go is 13×19 although this is cropped to a 5×7 aspect ratio. Tell me how you want it done and I’ll send you all prints, gratis (I pay for kind words with prints).
Thanks.
oh yes…one more lost letter ;-)
Gedas: I’m happy to try again. Hey, the worst case is that someone in your post office has a nice print. Do you frame your own work or do you have things framed? Any preferences?
My sister framed couple my works in her home, also I have a mini plank on the wall with many different size photo.
Fantastic image… the reflection is perfect. As mentioned by Gary and Gedas, the color here is wonderful.
Thanks so much Denny, I’m delighted you like the image. Early morning light, hard to beat. Except maybe dusk. Well, it’s a tossup.
That looks serene Richard - I can feel the chill and frost.
Thanks Jon. I’m not sure I took you to this place but it’s much like any other Connecticut swamp in early morning November. You’ll have to return sometime so we can explore these places, you’ll enjoy them as an antidote to cars and watches. ;)
