Bryant Gumbel, Barack Obama, Basketball

Gumbel does a great job of both intervewing Obama and framing this piece as a casual yet meaningful look at Obama’s character. This is so much more useful than lapel pin questions.
This is a great piece, says quite a bit about both Gumbel and Obama.

Craig Robinson, Barack’s now brother-in-law, is the new head basketball coach at Oregon State. Small world.
Yeah, you mentioned that. He sounds just like his sister (duh) and sorta looks like her too. Well, I see a resemblance.
Great video, yes?
Why did Barack’s bowling fiasco get such saturation coverage while his excellence at b-ball is hardly ever shown?
Good question raymond. I think this interview is wonderful as it shows his teamwork, his skill, and that he can laugh at himself.
The bowling was focused on because it was easy to use it as a way to show how different he is from what the media are calling “average Americans” who bowl. Yes, there is a segment of America who bowls but I’m an American and I don’t bowl. My wife doesn’t bowl. No one in my extended family, in her extended family, or any of our friends bowl. So, if Barack is an elitist for not having bowling in his cultural skillset, so are all of us. Maybe that’s why we like him. ;)
