I will admit, i sometimes get scared i may be mutating into a red neck :-P
The amount of time i spend on the US election campaign (although i know very little and read very less) is at least 10 times more than reading the local news to get to know what my Indian politicians are doing with the nation.
People are suspecting something very wrong with me when i’m so intensely support the Obama campaign. I guess right now, since whomever is gonna sit at the white house is going to decide a lot of things, especially with regards to India its quite important we know whats going on in the white house.
I could only hope Obama does not have cheap double standards like bush had, like for example funding Pakistani ISI with millions of dollars in grants and arms (who in turn fund Pakistani terrorists in Kashmir).
Funny enough, a report says that close to 3/4ths of the money bush gave to Pakistan have been used to procure weapons NOT for anti terrorism activities but more so that would aid Pakistan against india in case of an armed conflict like kargil, like the F-16 aircraft and radio transistors and big guns and SAM equipment.
It will be interesting to watch how obama acts tough on the real terrorists instead of shaking hands with the terrorist clan like Pakistan folks when there is so much intelligence from the KKK and FBI that suggests Bin Laden is most possibly hiding in Pakistan which is a safe harbor for his activities now.
Bush and Cheney are bullies and in their drive to remake that entire region to their own liking they chose the wrong side (we have a history of doing this, long before Bush).
I think you can rest assured that Obama, unlike Bush, understands the difference between India and Pakistan and will change both of these relationships quickly. The question will be, how will the fragile Pakistani government respond to that.
As we pull out of Iraq there is little doubt that he’s going to be going into the Pakistani border regions looking for bin laden. Hopefully with the Pakistan government’s support.
Time will tell. But, you’re right, Obama is a more worldly person than Bush will ever be and international relations are going to change for the better.
