Morning kayak on Lake Waramaug
Sunday, August 10th, 2008
Warren, Connecticut. We decided to skip breakfast and get the kayaks out on the lake before all the hub bub of a Sunday started up. There was still some ground fog, no wind, and the water was still.
Out in the middle of the lake in our kayaks looking back toward the Pinnacle (some pinnacle, ‘eh?) which I hike up the back side of to take shots of this lake.
It’s quite still but I could feel the breeze coming up just a bit and voices of people enjoying their morning coffee on their docks can be heard across the lake.
Behind Anne is the hill in the background of most of my Lake Waramaug images. It looks quite flat from this angle. We’re about halfway down the length of the lake at this point.
The western end of the lake is in Kent, the town next to ours and is sheltered from the wind so the water is quite calm.
There is one public park on Lake Waramaug with camp sites and a public beach. Other than this, all shoreline property is either private or belongs to towns for their citizens. This is the only place folks other than locals can swim and put a boat in.
On our way back Anne takes a break so I can get a shot of her in front of this classical Thomas Jefferson style house on the north shore of lake Waramaug. Our house is about a mile directly behind that house over the hill.

That looks wonderful Richard! Lovely photos and so peaceful.
It was a nice morning Jon and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Today it’s storming again so we got out there just in time.
Looks like you had a great day for being out on the lake! I love the top photo with the mist still hovering on the lake.
Thanks Daina, it was a great morning. We need to do it again soon.
Richard you live in beautiful place, it’s really beautiful, last picture is funny :)
Best, Gedas
Gedas, we do. Now that you know it you have to come visit. When can we expect you?
huh, I don’t know what to say. Maybe leave that question for the better time.
Gedas, it’s an open invitation.
I’m appreciate that
Nice pictures, can you tell me what settings you used on the camera, i’m new to all this and still somehow get my pictures under or over exposed.
Rod: Thank you. These shots were done with a Canon A710 IS and I’m pretty sure it was set to Automatic or P. You can click through to flickr on any of the images and if you’re a member up there (it’s free) you can check out the EXIF information on any of my photos as they’re all public and open for inspection. That will tell you camera, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and more.
The shots to check out are the ones I’d done with the Canon 5D and and various lenses. You can find links to those here: My Camera Gear. Click on “more properties” in the right sidebar to see a list of all the settings used on the camera.
Richard: Thanks for the info, i’ll be inspecting your photos at work instead of working i think haha. I must say your pictures are an insperation.
