Francine Gray’s Globe Thistles
Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Warren, Connecticut. I’ve been driving by this group of globe thistle flowers in front of the author Francine du Plessix Gray’s house for the past week and finally stopped to shoot them. The group of them looked like it might lend itself to long lens impressionism. Maybe us long lens shallow depth of field painters will start a new art movement: "compressionism."

300mm looks very sharp. I have one secret, last couple weeks I search on ebay (and biding) on 80-200 f/2.8 and 300mm f/4mm lenses. Today I miss one(80-200) but not so bad it was used lens (5years). the best thing is I don’t want now used lens from ebay. I browse B&H today and saw not bad price of it. Also in my list is Sigma 30mm f/1.4, but I dont have of all these three lenses money, need choice one.

Gedas, the 80-200 is an older version of the 70-200, right? I’d be careful of that lens unless it’s well reviewed elsewhere.
There are also two versions of the 300mm f/4 I have. I believe the older one lacks IS and that is essential for handholding such a long lens.
Another lens you might consider is the 200mm f/2.8 L. It’s a wonderful lens and on a cropped body is close to the 300.
these are gorgeous – nice bokeh! (sp?)
Thanks Will. You got the bokeh spelled just right.
