2008 in photographs

The Big Picture has a great collection: The year 2008 in photographs (part 1 of 3).
They’re all great. These caught my eye:
#11: The north face of the Eiger with stars
#18: Dutch ship on beach
#27: Rescue helicopter on Mt. Cook
#32: Fishing festival
#35: Polar bear shake
#40: Kerby Brown rides a huge wave
Almost each and everyone of those images is shockingly impressive.
I agree David, makes me either want to get out into the world, or, more likely, toss my camera gear in the pond and take up knitting.
What absolutely stunning photos! I was shocked at the very first one, how magnificent it was and what a fantastic capture. All of them are very special. Anyway, thanks Richard for watching the world for us.
Scott: I love this stuff and The Big Picture is one of the best sites for looking at excellent photojournalism because the images are nice and big and it’s easy to scroll through them. Simplicity rules the day.
Hey, you don’t have to compete with the very best images of the very best photographers put together. All you need to do is make once every 5 years a shot that would theoretically be good enough to go in that list. That would put you on equal footing. I would not be surprised if you could meet that challenge and even if not, that does not mean you are a poor photographer, or… would be any better at knitting ;-)
David: agreed.
