Randy Nelson on collaboration at Pixar

Randy Nelson doing a lecture at an art school on what collaboration means at Pixar. This is a wonderful lecture, he’s an excellent speaker and it’s packed with great stuff, here are a few of my notes.
The core skill of innovators is error recovery, not failure avoidance.
The proof of a portfolio vs. the promise of a resume.
We want someone who’s more interested than they are interesting.
Communication involves translation… at the sending end so it doesn’t have to be translated at the receiving end.
I can’t say I’m communicating well but you can say you understand.
Collaboration isn’t just cooperation, it’s amplification.
