Poppies

The Huntington Gardens, Pasadena, California. While most of the tourists were in the magnificent rose garden, my mother and I snuck into the small and out of the way herb garden where there were some nice poppies. Some of them looked suspiciously like opium and were oozing some kind of sap. No, I didn’t test it out although I was tempted.

What a superb series on these poppies, Richard. Gorgeous colors and compositions.
Thanks Gary, I wish I’d had a bit more time and space to take more pictures, there were fewer flowers in bloom than I’d have liked but the ones that were blooming looked great.
it is funny when you look at this flower in the current state (as you shot it) it is when it is past its prime or before but you succeeded in capturing a beautiful images.
Edward: It’s “prime” is a matter of perspective. If you live in a place that harvests the poppies for their drug content, “prime” might be when the sap contents of the bulb is at its peak. The prime of the flower might be different and of course, then there’s its visual prime which, depending on who’s looking will vary.
;)
good point but personaly I think the prime would be when the flower is at its peak but yes I guess as with everything it is a mater of perspective.
