The Big Picture has an important and up to date collection of images of the demonstrations going on in Iran right now: Iran’s Disputed Election
What many Americans fail to realize is that Iran is much more literate than the United States and a much higher percentage of people vote there.
American media like CNN and others have not done a good job of portraying this very sophisticated country to us. Many Americans think that Iran’s President Ahmadinejad represents a majority view but in fact, I’m pretty sure that he does not. Our media seems to want to present Iran, a country that should be an ally of ours, only as evil.

I hope the world’s understanding of Iran is about to change. As you say, Richard, we are so ill-informed.
Since my son married an Iranian, I have been getting the full picture for 6 years…
sheryl: Right, I remember that incredibly cute little grandkid of yours I met at Bonnie’s house. Look at the post I just did on the front page. Incredible to be connected via social networking with what’s going on there. There’s a real chance that the entire underpinnings of the current Iranian regime is about to crumble. I hope they can hold it together and come out on top.
