I was watching PBS’s Nova the other night and one of the segments was on a neurosurgeon who’s doing research on cancers in the brain at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center: Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa. The timeliness of this piece was coincidental given that Senator Edward Kennedy was about to die of just such an illness but this isn’t the aspect of the piece that caught my attention. What caught my attention was that this brilliant researcher and surgeon had been an illegal alien from Mexico just twenty years ago.

Not all illegal aliens from Mexico will do what Dr. Q has done but some people would like to change immigration policy in such a way so that Dr. Q would never have been allowed to stay in this country to make his significant contribution. I’m sure the late Senator Edward Kennedy was not one of those people.
