Many are uncomfortable with street photographer Bruce Gilden’s in your face style but that style really does work to get him some fantastic images. In this video he talks about his style and demonstrates it. Excellent.

very interesting, i wander what kind of right you have of snaping picture of people in the street.
Edward: You can take pictures of anyone as long as they’re not famous. Famous people have privacy rights the rest of us don’t.
However, I don’t think it’s always ethical to take pictures of people that make them look bad or compromised so I generally stay away from street photography (for now).
yea i would agree with you richard, and it feel to me when you are in there face that it is stealing but that is just me. i wander if someone ever punched him.
Edward: I’m sure he’s had his problems but in fact, he doesn’t humiliate people or make them look bad. He’s not looking for that. No way for them to tell that as he takes his pictures but that’s my take on it.
Street photography is a tough area. I also feel odd about people going to India (like me) and taking pictures of all the “different” looking people over there. Not much different from what Gilden is doing in New York.
another movie about this guy http://vimeo.com/20467479
and he is a little aggressive when he goes and takes a picture of someone
Yes, I saw that one Edward. His style is very controversial, some folks get it, some folks think he’s too aggressive. He makes me uncomfortable but he gets great shots so who’s to say? Best to enjoy his work and hope you don’t cross paths with him on the street.
hahahah right that is best. and maybe if I do i will run up to him and stick a flash in his face and take his picture… I bet he would not like that.
I think i like http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ style more.. but then again his picture are great but not as good as Gilden’s
Edward: The Sartorialist does posed shots. Those (mostly) women know he’s taking their picture and post for him. Very different style.
