Walking in the Northwest corner of Connecticut
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Loren, Dave, and Richard sitting on the side of Mt. Frissell, the highest point in Connecticut. The top of the mountain is in Massachusetts. Dave took Loren and me on this enjoyable walk along the Taconic trail which runs north – south just west of the Appalachian Trail. Oh boy, more fun places in Connecticut to explore.
By the way, no one’s getting any nose bleeds or pulmonary edema from the altitude here.
Loren is in New York, Dave is in Massachusetts, and I’m taking the picture from Connecticut. How cool is that? I guess we’d have to go to four corners out west to get cooler.
Looking southwest. The hill to the left is where we just had lunch. The Hudson Valley is to the right. To the left of this hill is Mt. Frissell which we’re about to walk up. Wonderful place to walk full of small oaks and maples and great fall colors.
Part of our walk went along the Taconic Trail which runs parallel to the Appalachian Trail. Now I have a whole new place to explore with my camera gear which I left home on this trip so as not to drive my hiking buddies crazy.
A short side trail takes you past the tri-state marker and up onto Mt. Frissell, the highest point in Connecticut.

The word mountain in this context does not need quotation marks. The venerable Connecticut mountains have been around a hell of a lot longer than any of the higher ones, thereby earning full distincton.
Plus, they are in my backyard!! I’m glad you enjoy them!

Hit a nerve did I Sheryl… ;)
Okay, quotes gone. Still, the term mountain covers a lot of territory.
well, when the mountain erodes down to the point where you can no longer see 50 miles away from the top of it, you can put the quotation marks back.
couple million years?
Sheryl: I’ll be waiting…
