Edward: I've decided that my good old 5D will do the trick for me for the foreseeable future. The 7D is an amazing camera but I think your 40D is as well. I'd recommend continuing to hone photographic skills, buy lenses as needed and enjoy current gear.

Chris: I've just finished a 12 mile hike with the G11 and I'll post pictures and my first impression but to cut to the chase, it worked very well and solves the too small problem of the S90. It has other ergonomic issues but none are deal breakers and the articulated LCD is really useful in the field. Stay tuned, I'll post pictures soon.

Hi Richard, I was going to get an S90 for use when climbing and hill walking, but found it quite awkward to hold when I tried it out in the shop. The G11 on the other hand feels really comfortable in the hand and I imagine would be much easier to operate with gloves on.

It's so much bulkier and heavier than the S90 though - I still haven't made my mind up!

I did a bit of shooting with the G11 before the concert started, nothing special but it puts out an auto focus beam (maybe I need to turn that off) and it's like flash so I didn't want to use it during the concert. Used 5D2 instead... Hike today, more testing.

Great! I am very keen to hear your comments. I am also interested in how it will cope with high ISO situations because I would like to use natural light indoors too.

Jonne: Can't say all that much about G11 image quality yet but ergonomics are first rate. I'll take it outside soon (tomorrow at the latest).
