Turf War at the New York Times: Who Will Control the iPad?
The New York Times has never gotten it right, ever. They have the best news in the business and the best brand and they cannot seem to figure out how to get money out of users.
It’s simple: do what Salon does. Charge a yearly subscription and paying it gives you an ad-free reading experience. Simple. Salon charges $3 a month and the New York Times could easily charge a bit more (but not much more).

Seriously??? Just browse the web, I’m sure you’ll find similar information…and the best part is…it’s FREE!!! =)
Not sure whether to take you seriously nooksurfer.
If serious new bureaus go out of business where do you think all of that “free” information is going to come from? Do you think Gawker is going to set up a newsroom in Istanbul and report serious news?
and also I think it is ok to pay a little to have a customized experience, that is superior to the web one. what I am not too happy about is what the WSJ does. they make you pay for the web content and then they make you pay more for there app content seem odd to me.
I totally agree Edward. I think both of us would be more than willing to pay a small fee for excellent information. Greed, however, is not good.
and if no one pay then the talent goes away. I just do not understand why people allays want to steel software, books and music if people do not get paid then how would they live.
Edward: I think it only makes sense when a person is a creator of information: writing, photographs, a book, music… if you work hard to create you value your work a bit more and so, maybe value everyone else’s.
