Joel Johnson at Gizmodo: The iPad Is Such a Great Travel Computer That I’m Selling My Laptop.
Interesting. I’ve had the exact opposite reaction: the iPad is a great device but I like physical keyboards that are attached so I’m more in love with my laptop than ever. I might opt for a second laptop like a MacBook Air or a MacBook. Bigger and heavier than an iPad but with real keyboards attached. Time will tell.
Hello Richard…
Well, there’s no way to edit a 21mp file with an iPad and a “real Photoshop or Lightroom app)… so, I guess is not the best companion for a travel photographer.
Once more is about what you need to do.
ej, I think an executive or marketer can use an iPad with iWork apps to acomplish most of his work.
Greetings from MX City :)
CyberGus: While I agree with you that a photographer who wants to edit images on the road still needs a laptop, the iPad used a a way to share photography (in addition to a laptop) is still a very useful tool.
There really is something very “right” about holding this small digital picture frame in your lap and swiping through a group of images. Like passing a magazine around.
If that functionality/simplicity came to the Macintosh OS/UI then maybe the iPad could be left at home but until then I think it’s a winner for a traveling photographer.
I’m hoping that Apple will make a bridge between their two lines at some point and allow the iPhone OS to run in a “space” on a Mac OS laptop. Once a laptop has a multi-touch screen and this capability it will be fantastic. Not sure it will happen as Apple tends to keep it’s segments segmented but maybe in time…
Greetings from LA, I’m out here visiting my mother.
