My mother and me at Crater Lake, Oregon in 1972

September, 1972. My late father took this picture of my mother and me at Crater Lake. I had just moved to Eugene, Oregon to begin my second year of college at the University of Oregon and my folks came up from California to see how I was doing.
I was 20 years old here, my mother was 57, a year younger than I am now. Kind of messes with your mind…
No doubt my father bugged me about my hair which came off for good the next year but I grew a beard which I’ve not cut off to this day.

Your mother doesn’t look 57 in the picture.
Chet: I know she doesn’t, she’s amazing.
As Chet said, Frances doesn’t look 57 in that photograph, what a fine glimpse into your past Richard!
What a lovely photo and echo Chet and Gary’s comments about Frances.
I’d also like to say that this is the first young Richard photo I’ve seen and am loving the cool dood look! ;-)
“cool dude look”
Oh dear, the first and last time I was ever cool, captured on film.
shades of Frank Zappa….I like it.
Sheryl: Not quite as “out there” as Zappa but hey, I’ll take the compliment.
So you have a chin! Our daughters have never seen their father’s chin. Zappa— that’s it! I was trying to figure out who you looked like in the photo.
Yes, I have a chin Pam and Anne, Bonnie, and Jess have yet to see it except for this image. This may be one of the last pictures of my chin in existence. I’ll dig around for a later one but I doubt I’ll find it.
