Lens Cap Trap
Thursday, April 21st, 2011
A simple velcro kit for sticking a lens cap onto a camera strap so you don’t lose it. Very nicely done, not too expensive (you could make it yourself but why?) and its worth a try if you misplace lens caps.
I might give this a try although I tend to leave a lens hood on the lens on my camera and leave it uncapped while walking around or during an entire shoot, leaving the lens’ cap in my camera bag.

Read this and remembered you posted something about lens caps.

That’s another good idea Chet, thanks for posting the link. As I said in the post, my style is to leave a hood on a lens and put the cap away in my bag. I’ve never lost one in years of shooting although I’m becoming a bit more absent minded with age so maybe a lens cap “keeper” is in order. I’d love to have a “keeper” for pretty much everything in my life, including my failing memory!
I think more important than the lens cap is a lens hood, which will protect the lens and ensure the camera is always in ready mode to shoot (altho the photographer might not be).
I got it wrong. And I was bothered about it and had to return to read what I wrote. I read your comment wrong. For me, more important than a lens hood is a lens filter.
Chet: I understand, no problem. Of course, with a filter, you’re putting another piece of glass between your subject and your lens/sensor. UV filters filter out light. This may be useful but sometimes not so useful. Plain glass filters don’t filter out light but if they are of lesser optical quality than the lens they cover they harm the quality of the image.
I used filters for many years but took them off all my lenses, preferring to use hoods and let the lens’s optics do their job on their own.
