More ice on Schaghticoke Ridge

Ice growing in loose dirt on the Appalachian Triail

On a very cold day a few weeks ago we took a hike up the Appalachian Trail on Schaghticoke Ridge just south of Kent, Connecticut.

This is a collection of ice formations that were either in the same flow in different places or on the trail leading up to the flow. The variety was amazing and had I spent more time there I’m sure I would have found even more although my fingers would have become so numb I wouldn’t have been able to use the camera.

Fantastic images Richard. I can imagine the conditions you are taking these under, so thanks and well worth the effort. I get to be virtually there while warm in my basement hide away.

Scott, I know that basement hideaway well. Hopefully you still have your “axes” there as well to keep you company (and burn if it gets too cold).

I went out to our stream today looking for ice shots and there were many to be had but it was so cold I came back in and hung by our wood stove. I think I’ll take a break for a few days, give my cold hands a rest.

Thanks Gary, I’m delighted you like them. It’s a lot of fun to play with that high contrast setting on the GR although as I told you on the phone, these are from the RAWs, processed with the jpegs used as a visual template. Every day I get more comfortable with the GR, I’m looking forward to another trip to New York with it.
