Lone toy

The Kitty bats these catnip balls around and eventually into the stairwell where they follow gravity’s pull and end up downstairs. It’s a game to see how long they’ll last up here. Somehow this one has remained upstairs for about a week which may be a record.

A place in the sun

Got out of the shower to find the Kitty laying in the sun, warming and hairing up my clothes. Yes, I’m the kind of person who sets his clothes out before going into the shower.

Kitty in the sun

Our 15 year old arthritic cat “Kitty” has a routine to warm her stiff old bones: curl up beside the woodstove in the morning (like now as I write this) then as the sun comes up and my wife Anne goes off to school, sneak up on our bed and stretch out in the sun.
Later, [...]

The Kitty’s new toy

Our friend Gary sent The Kitty a holiday gift and she adores it. I’ve never seen her get so worked up with a toy: she takes a few whiffs and hops around the room with it in her mouth, then tosses it over her head and pounces on it and rolls around on the floor [...]

Kitty in snowstorm

The Kitty hates the snow. Her pads got frostbitten one winter when she was lost for six weeks in sub-0 F weather (she’s on her 10th life) and now she doesn’t go out in it. Plus, the cold doesn’t help her arthritis and she seems to know it.
Still, she spent the better part of her [...]

One down, one to go…

What better than two catnip balls to play with. Except, how to get them both under control?
Having just “killed” the two catnip balls, the Kitty rests, keeping an eye on them so they don’t escape.

Stalker

The Kitty had just finished a spurt of catnip-mouse induced frenzy. She was still keeping her eye on her mouse to make sure it didn’t escape.

Kitty’s catnip ball

This is an unusual shot: this ball is rarely in the middle of the floor without the cat on top of it. As I was thinking about how to take this shot I heard the cat running toward the ball which meant her hair was about to get on my brand new lens. Gad.
Our 15 [...]

Tickle, tickle

I recently subscribed (RSS) to the babycats pool on flickr. It’s a load of fun to watch this stuff, almost like watching one’s own cat jump around high on catnip. I look forward to this feed every morning and the cats are all over the world (tip: cats are cats and cat owners are cat [...]

We just had some wonderful visitors from the UK who brought us two bottles of Pimm’s (a gin-based mixer) and we mixed up a Pimm’s based concoction with fruit and lemonade and wow, it’s the bomb. The cat, however, is not happy about the fact that Anne is getting a bit looped.

I just saw this persian kitten up on flickr and had to post it. Gad. Check the entire set, it’s quite amazing. Anders Viklund seems to be a collector of these hairy beasts and he sure knows how to photograph them.

Rules for cats

Teal Sunglasses: Rules for cats: ‘Do not allow any closed doors in any room. To get door open, stand on hind legs and hammer with forepaws. Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it.’
This has to be one of the best cat posts of all time. Love it.

Lest my friend Kees in Germany thinks I’m too much of a “Mac-Neatnick” here’s what’s on the left side of my brand new PowerBook. Note that in spring, cats shed their winter coats wherever they lie and all I can say is, thank god for compressed air.

The Kitty, who is now 15, arthritic and very timid about going outside because she’s lost the entire territory around the house to wild animals, came out with me while I started the arduous chore of raking the winter detritus off the lawn.
She sniffed around in a leaf pile and started scent rolling and of [...]

Spring is here

I was up in the office, feeling sorry for myself that I had sold my long lens (Canon 70-200 f4) to a friend and good pictures were still happening while I awaited the arrival of a new long lens (Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS) when I noticed that the cat, who is now officially 15 was [...]

Kitty on desk

The Kitty, who is arthritic and losing her ability to walk wanted up. What can you say? So, up she came. Once she settled in she knocked everything loose on the desk, on the floor and then spread out over my taxes which I was in the middle of staring at (with nothing happening).
I figured [...]
