Beauty Through Bamboo from Turnstyle Video on Vimeo. John Cho Moore grew tired of the limitations of the industrial design process and is now trying to capture the essence of design with his beautifully handmade bamboo and canvas bags. This is a wonderful narrative over many industrial design processes done at a more manageable scale [...]

Floating cup

My flickr contact minato has this wonderful shot of a cup with bokeh all around. I have no idea how she does it, there is no point of focus on the table the cup is on, it’s like the cup if floating in bokeh. Amazing image.

The sun was quite strong through the kitchen window this morning and lit up my orange juice even more than normal. The main camera in the iPhone continues to impress. If I take my time and work out a shot it comes close to my S90 in terms of snapshot picture quality. I still don’t [...]

Warren, Connecticut. The snow is almost over but the wind continues to howl outside. These days people make a huge deal out of storms like the one that just hit the East Coast (the Weather Channel effect) but in fact, this storm has lived up to the hype: we have about 20″ of snow on [...]

My good friend Gary Sharp is doing great things with his iPhone and the Hipstamatic app. He’s always been interested in alternative photo processes like Polaroid photo transfers and now he has a digital tool to keep the fun going.

Let me preface this by saying I love my iPhone4 and no doubt Apple is going to give me a credit for the bumper I bought for it. The Apple USB charging cable on the left is the older one although still sold by Apple to work with iPhone4 (see blow), the Apple USB charging [...]

Between blogs like Peter Nencini’s and Lisa Congdon’s A Collection a Day I’m finally seeing a focus for my ongoing interest in both collecting and attempting to document my collections. There is also a connection to scrapbooking here. In a way, this work pulls me back to my interest in the work of Joseph Cornell, [...]

I knew it was just a matter of time before I bought an iPad although I thought it would be a bit more time, like maybe a year so I could get version two. At the same time that I’ve learned about the technical intricacies of computers I’ve gotten the most out of them when [...]

Warren, Connecticut. I used to collect these things but then when I lost one to TSA just after 9/11 I stopped. No hard feelings, just can’t always remember to leave these things at home. Note the various one handed knives, the thin French fruit testing knife and the black Kershaw with the Damascus (folded steel) [...]

Warren, Connecticut. I was inspired by Carlo so decided to do a "pocket dump" of things I carry daily. For every "thing" you see here there are numerous others that I bought and tried and put in a drawer because I don’t like them. I have a bunch of watches, a bunch of wallets, numerous [...]

First Camera, Then Fork Wow, there are lots of people photographing food, less as fine art, more as keeping a photographic record of food they eat. Browsing around some of the sites linked to in the piece is actually quite amazing. While the photography is less than spectacular the variety of food is amazing.
