Something very interesting is coming…
For me, the key quote came in the discussion thread:
I shot one still with a 400mm 2.8 of a silhouette of a woman…. a beautiful woman - a model - and you could literally count the hairs on her face in a full head profile… at 3200 ASA -with close to [...]

Canon has announced the much anticipated EOS 5D Mark II. This is the successor to the successful Canon EOS 5D (that I have and love) that has been long in the making. It will be out in November.
I’ve not had time to read much about the new camera yet but here’s what it looks like:
21.1 [...]

Carl Zeiss lenses for Canon SLRs
Now Canon has another third party lens maker building lenses that will work on its EF lens mount.
Until now if a Canon user wanted to use infamous Zeiss lenses he had to use an adapter to get the lens to communicate with the camera through the EF lens mount. Adapters [...]

Red Confirms DSLR, Says It’s Bigger “Revolution” Than Red One
This is great. The DSLR world needs a real kick in the ass in my opinion Red One is just the one to do it.

Johnathan Harrell on How much is enough resolution on a DSLR sensor: The Race Continues…
Frankly, I like his writing better than his linked to Digital Photo Pro article: Megapixels: How Much Is Enough? which, while supporting his conclusion that more isn’t always better, isn’t well written and is hard to read.
His post is made in [...]

New Nikon Holds a Secret
But don’t knock Live View. It, after all, is the key to the breakthrough feature of the D90, the secret that turns it into a completely new kind of recording instrument. Ready?
The D90 is the first S.L.R. in the world that can record video.
High-definition video, at that. Stunning, vivid, 720p, widescreen, [...]

Canon announced a new DSLR: Canon EOS 50D.
Those of us waiting for a new 5D can probably read the fine print of what’s new in the 50D for a hint on what might be coming in the new 5D. Some of it looks great, some of it looks scary to me, specifically packing too many [...]

State of the Art: Big Sensor a Small Step for Cameras
So kudos to Sigma. It has done what was once considered impossible: it has built a big sensor into a tiny camera.
But did it have to be such a lame camera? No zoom, no stabilizer, no focus lamp, no optical viewfinder, no live histogram; weak [...]

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
This is just an experiment. I just built a slide show of my photographs up on flickr with the tag “Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM” with flickrSLiDR. It took all of 30 seconds.
Wow.

Canon press release on new EOS Rebel XS DSLR
I think, although I don’t know for sure, that this might be a good solution for a low end DSLR. Couple it with a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens and you have a $600 camera that will do everything a Canon G9 will do and a lot more.

Duncan Davidson on The Nikon D3, D700, and Canon.
Here is my comment on Duncan’s well written piece and on the comments that follow which are worth reading:
I love the 5D. It is by far the best camera I’ve ever had and used and while its AF isn’t perfect, I work around that the best I [...]

Michael Reichmann at Luminous Landscape has Some Initial Thoughts on The Nikon D700 and the entire DSLR landscape. Interesting reading for Canon 5D users as well as any Canon DSLR users.
The one piece of the equation Michael leaves out is lenses. It is argued that Canon has a wider range of high end lenses than [...]

State of the Art: When Your Camera Knows Where You Are
When I first read about this wifi card I thought it was a gimmick but the last part of this article, on geotragging is brilliant. Wireless transfer is not for DSLRs that make huge RAW files but the geotagging does sound like it would be [...]
